  11. Metalescents Metalescent coatings contain typically one of two kinds of aluminum flake pigment, leafing or non-leafing. The most generally used non-leafing variety, when combined with subtle pigmentation, produces a highly reflective coating that gives the appearance of depth. Owing to the presence of aluminum particles, this coating requires a clear fluoropolymer topcoat to prevent oxidation of the aluminum flake. Some highly reflective brighter formulations are not opaque to u.v. and require a barrier coat. Metallic coatings exhibit color change when viewed at different angles. This condition is commonly referred to by the industry as flop. Panel flatness and orientation are critical if the degree of uniformity desired is to be realized.

  12. Mockups High Performance Systems, Inc. produces visual and test mock-ups that exhibit application characteristics typical of the production techniques that would be utilized on the project. This has been found to be especially useful for the final approval of metalescent and/or pearlescent finishes. Owing to the effect of temperature and humidity on the application of these highly reflective coatings. High Performance Systems strongly recommends that prior to production, a series of trial runs be scheduled to exhibit variances due to changing weather conditions. This format should allow the establishment of acceptable ranges.

  15. Panels High Performance Systems, Inc. is one of the few remaining custom applicators with the capacity and capability to apply pearlescent and metalescent coatings to large aluminum building panels. Panel sizes up to .188" x 62" x 192" are regularly coated in a wide range of pigmented, reflective resin systems. Large, pre-formed coping and other break shapes are readily processed through our facility. For additional information: Please refer to Metalescents, Pearlescents, Mock-up and Silksceen. For further information specific to your project, E-mail info@hpscoatings.com

  16. Pearlescents: Highly reflective pearlescent coatings utilize chemically inert mica particles instead of aluminum flake. This resin system does not require a clear topcoat as oxidation of the particles is not a concern. However, a clear topcoat may be added to increase film thickness and depth. Pearlescent coatings also exhibit color change when viewed at different angles. This system is often utilized as a tool for value engineering with sacrificing the integrity of the specification.

  17. Railing Fully fabricated aluminum balcony rail and site rail in a variety of design configurations are regularly coated at High Performance Systems, Inc. Basket rail, picket rail, horizontal pipe rail with insert panels, geometrically designed railing and balustrades that employ casting to emulate an historical period or highlight a theme represent only some of the options available to enhance the appearance of your project.

High Performance Systems, Inc. employs a five stage immersion system that ensures fully fabricated sections of railing exceed the rigid pretreatment requirements of AAMA Specification 2605-98, 3; 6.1, 6.2.1 and 6.2.2.

Facility design allows the coating of radius sections up to four feet deep. In most instances, this ability limits the amount of field connections required, enhancing overall coating integrity while minimizing on-site remedial work.

The applicator and railing manufacturers must maintain continued dialogue to ensure basic finishing requirements are met. Weep holes for pretreatment drainage, soluble lubricants used in the manufacturing process and proper selection of casting alloy are but a few of the issues detailed on a job by job basis.
